FIFA has suspended the All India Football Federation with immediate effect due to “undue influence from third parties”,
This also means that the Under-17 women’s World Cup, which was scheduled to be played in India in October, cannot take place.
The Supreme Court of India disbanded the AIFF in May and appointed a three-member committee to govern the sport, amend the AIFF’s constitution and conduct elections that have been pending for 18 months.
A statement read, “The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs,””
“Defending champions FC Goa will clash with Bengal giants Mohammedan Sporting Club in the opening Group A game of the 131st Durand Cup today. FC Goa had claimed their maiden Durand Cup title after beating Mohammedan Sporting 1-0 in the summit clash of the last edition in October last year.
The first game of the tournament gets underway amidst a build-up which saw a Trophy tour of five cities including Guwahati and Imphal, the two first-time host cities. The Goan side is brimming with young talent and Mohammedan Sporting coach Andrey Chernyshov of Russia reiterated the importance of a win to open the season.

The Russian has had a quiet season ever since losing his two-set lead in the Australian Open final. India’s Aditi Ashok finished in a tie for 31st after carding a second successive two-under 71 over the weekend at the ISPS Handa World Invitational.
She was the only Indian of the three who started to make the 54-hole cut at the tournament that was played simultaneously with the men and over two courses in Northern Ireland.
Tvesa Malik had missed the first cut applied after 36 holes, while Diksha Dagar missed out on the 54-hole cut. Maja Stark fired an exceptional course record of 10-under 63 on the final day to win by five strokes.
The 22-year-old began the day two shots behind overnight leader Amanda Doherty but got off to a sensational start with several birdies”

Ian Chappell, the former Australia captain, announced his decision to retire from commentary after nearly 45 years.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, the 78-year-old said: “I remember the day when I knew I’d had enough of playing cricket,” Chappell said. “I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, If you’re clock-watching at that time, I have to go. So when it comes to commentary, I’ve been thinking about it. And I just thought with all the travel and, you know, walking upstairs and things like that, it’s all just going to get harder.
Chappell has recently been battling several health issues. ”
